My Books: Romance Ratings

Different readers like different things. Some prefer no romance at all, others won't look at it if there isn't a significant relationship or steamy scenes that would peel the stamps off every letter in the post office.

Below is an explanation of the romance ratings, steam ratings, and labels used to classify the romance elements of each of my books, followed by ratings grouped by series.

Romance Ratings

Indicates how prominently romance features in a book.

●○○○○ — Romance plays little or no role in the story

●●○○○ — At least one romantic subplot is touched on throughout the book with slight to moderate progression

●●●○○ — Romance features moderately, involves the protagonist, and has a medium effect on the plot

●●●●○ — Romance features heavily in the book between the protagonist and one or more characters, consuming a considerable amount of the protagonist's thoughts

●●●●● — Plot? There is not plot, only romance

Steam Ratings

Indicates how tame or explicit sex scenes are in a book.

●○○○○ — Glimpses and kisses: Meaningful glances and perhaps a kiss, but no sex on and off page

●●○○○ — Behind closed doors: At least one intimate scene occurs, but without the reader present

●●●○○ — Open door: At least one intimate scene with the reader present, euphemistic language for act and body parts

●●●●○ — Explicit open door: At least two intimate scenes, explicit language with a variety of sexual acts

●●●●● — Explicit and plentiful: Several explicit scenes, a variety of adventurous acts, dotted throughout the book

Labels

Elements that play into the romance-related plots of the book.

abnormal: Unusual or extreme body parts in sexual situations

bi: Bisexual relationships (single-partner sex)

hetero: Heterosexual relationships

non-human: Romance and/or sex between human and non-human characters, such as vampires, androids, cyborgs, or dragons

ptsd: One or more characters suffer posttraumatic stress disorder and descriptive flashbacks (possible triggers)

poly: Polyamorous relationships (single-partner sex)

wlw: Women Loving Women - lesbian relationships
